Description
Two seat, dual control Mustangs are a rarity in a world where airworthy examples of the legendary fighter is already scarce, but there is only ONE C-model, period. She is "Betty Jane", a TP-51C that tours the nation annually with the Collings Foundation.
She wasn't always a trainer. This particular Mustang started life in 1943, rolling out of a factory as a ordinary C-model. But in 2004, work commenced on transforming her into the two-seat trainer variant. This established field modification (few Mustangs were purpose built as a two-seater) served well for the role of high speed transport. General Eisenhower purportedly surveyed Normandy from such a Mustang.
Such was the case for this airframe back in 2004, when it was decided to employ the field modification. Christened "Betty Jane", she serves a dual role of both showcasing a lesser known variant of the famed fighter while allowing select members of the public to go up and feel what it's like to fly an aerial legend.
This TP-51C, airframe 42-103293, civlian registration N251MX, is operated by the Collings Foundation as "Betty Jane". Proceeds from the sale of this print will be donated to that organization.
