Description
They have other tasks to do. In fact, the "X" in their designator signifies their original mission of flight testing and evaluation. But if the "Nighthawks" are known for anything in the world, it's transporting Cabinet members of the United States wherever they need to go when a helicpter is desired or required. And their Number One passenger is the President.
As previously mentioned, HMX-1 came into being back in the 40's, helping to establish the helicopter as a military machine of worth in the Marine Corps. But their famous mission of carrying the POTUS started in the days of Eisenhower. One ride set a precident and the mission became theirs. Much like their Air Force counterparts, HMX-1 has a perfect record for reliability and safety to the President. Barring circumstances beyond their control (like weather), they WILL get him there.
Here, an VH-60 White Hawk and and a CH-46 Sea Hawk come in for landing. I refrained from calling that VH-60 "Marine One" because, truth be told, I have no idea if the President was onboard. Nighthawks are notorious for playing their famed Shell-Game, and that was the case that day - another White Hawk was in the air, making determination of WHICH was Marine One impossible.
