Artist's Description
One of the most critical instructions a controller can issue to a plane on the ground is "Hold Short". So important is it in fact that pilots are required to repeat it back. It ensures that an aircraft doesn't stray across the path of another aircraft.
Such is the case in this picture. A 747 leaving for a short hop across the Bay for Oakland is staying well clear of the intersectingrunway that a 737 is departing from. The delay in taxiing out for the pilots is no doubt offset by the glorious morning colors blazing across the sky.
