Yes, there are several very distinct terms for the beginning of day, specifying an actual angle of the sun below the horizon. Truth be told, I've never been good at employing the descriptors "Civil Twilight" or "Nautical Twilight". For me, when the colors of red and gold begin to rise into the early morning skies, I simply call it "Dawn".
And dawn it is as this EMB-120 Brasilia comes swooping in for landing. It's moments like this that make stirring from a sound slumber to stand in the relative cold worthwhile. The early rays of the sun are beginning to illuminate the high and low clouds, creating a sight beautiful enough to warm the blood long before the physical rays of the sun peek over the horizon.
