Description
In my over twenty years of being in military and commercial aviation, I've never been involved in a merger between two companies. Recently, I pondered how I would handle being in such a scenario. There are of course two sides to the coin. First is the half that is the corporation that is absorbing the other, retaining it's own identity; perhaps they are rather a happy bunch, content in knowing their company is a stronger entity. Then there's the other airline, the one that loses it's name; maybe those employees are less happy about the whole process, a little concerned about where they fall in the new hierarchy.
This is all just conjecture. Like I said, I've never been through a merger; much of it is based on what I've heard from those who have gone thru the process. Indeed. the reverse is sometimes true, where those of the buying company aren't exactly thrilled about new practices that are to be thrust upon them. Likewise, I've known some of the bought-side that were genuinely excited about the prospect, looking forward to the expanded network that they'll be able to enjoy.
Dawn of Change represents such emotions on the ongoing AAL/USA merger. The day where the entire fleet of the freshly-joined companies will eventually sport one single livery is upon them, and the mixed reception is represented by the combination of optimistic clear blue skies with more than a hint of cloudy uncertainty. But I like to think the golden hue tells of the promise of a better future for all the employees of the joint company, as well as the traveling public.
