Artist's Description

Meteorlogical lesson, here. There is a temperature, dependant on weather conditions, at which humid air will condense from a vapor into a liquid. It's known as Dew Point, and pilots use that figure to predict when the weather will turn ugly. But the physics of flight will sometime make reaching Dew Point a little easier. For example, moist air getting sucked into the air intake of a jet engine loses a few points of Celcius in the process.

That's exactly what is happening in this picture of a 747 freighter that's beginning its departure roll. It's turbofans run up to takeoff setting, each one's intake is clouded over by visible moisture as the lowered ambient pressure of the air being squeezed into the engine reaches Dew Point. Of course, that isn't doing much to hinder the tremendous thrust that is kicking up a spray of water from the damp runway. PS - for those that are curious, that spray didn't affect the 737's approach for the parallel runway.

About Alex Esguerra

Alex Esguerra

Aviation is a passion of mine... always has been. And photography is a means of sharing that passion with others. If I'm not flying a plane or sitting in one, then I'm likely training a lens towards it. While I've flown planes for only a fraction of my life, I've always considered myself a pilot. And pilots love sharing their experiences with others. It's easy to tell others how to takeoff, but only when I pass on that sense of joy that I feel of breaking Earth's surly bonds do most people understand why I love doing what I do. That's what I try to do with my photos. Besides proximity, I aim to convey a story or stir up the emotions within the viewer when they gaze upon my work. Here's hoping you enjoy your little stay in my...
