This is such an exciting image. I love the spray being thrown up. That must've been quite a storm!

Artist's Description

The landing of an airliner is almost always a very dynamic affair. Once the heavy machine has touched down, spoilers raise up to rob the wing of lift and let the plane settle it's weight on the runway. That helps the brakes, which generate so much heat in slowing tons on tons of man and metal that they sometimes glow. Finally, the thrust reversers deploy and the engines rev up, suddenly throwing the exhaust - that's been pushing the plane all along - in the opposite direction. It's a violent combination that can make every square inch of the airframe rattle as the aircraft is slowed from 150'ish miles an hour to a pace more suited for taxiing to the gate.

That's what I love about this photo. Normally, the only visible sign of all the "Dynamic Braking" that is going on is the spoilers going up. But with the runway still wet from a recent storm, the thrust reverse from this A330 is kicking of a spray that leaves little room for imagination in the power needed to stop an airliner...

It's easy to tell others how to takeoff, but only when I pass on that sense of joy that I feel of breaking Earth's surly bonds do most people understand why I love doing what I do. That's what I try to do with my photos. Besides proximity, I aim to convey a story or stir up the emotions within the viewer when they gaze upon my work. Here's hoping you enjoy your little stay in my...
