In it's usual context, an international flight is a LONG journey. Today's airliners can easily trek along for thousands of miles without stopping, and those flights can easily span 16 (or more) hours. So no matter how comfortable your seat is, it's inevitably a bit of a challenge on the mind and body, and at least I often look forward to that final moment when I know the plane is on short final for landing.
Those are the thoughts that came to mind after I captured this photo of a Boeing 787 coming in to land. The Dreamliner is one of those super-long haul jets in the commercial aviation industry, connecting two points on the planet that are so distant that even the most seasoned of travelers would groan in misery. As this particular 787 flares for landing, the sky behind it is brightening with the coming morning sun, fairly representative of the two or three hundred souls aboard that are looking forward to this particular Journey's End.
