Description
It is through the Herculean efforts of warbird enthusiasts that we are afforded the privledge of seeing some of the most historically significant aircraft take to the skies. The restoration process can be extremely difficult and lengthy, and the operating costs once it is returned to an airworthy status can be astronomical. Still, there are those who consider such an undertaking a labor of love, much to the benefit of a public who are thrilled to experience the sights and sounds of aircraft immortalized in history.
Such is the case of this P-40N-5 Warhawk, owned by Chris Prevost, throttling up for departure out of Sonoma Valley Airport. The very same type of WW2 fighter as those used by the famed Flying Tigers, S/N 42-105306 itself is a verified combat veteran with several kills to it's credit. I selected this shot specifically because of the impression of impending flight, which is special for such a rare aircraft. The many hours of effort and dollars to support it allow this legend to live on.
