Description
Sept 19 2012 was a series of lasts. It would be the last time a Space Shuttle would take to the skies, the last time that NASA's facilities would be used to send one on its way, and the very last time a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft would be tasked to carry one. Overall, the takeoff of the delivery flight of Endeavour to its new home in California was an emotional time for many, one that I was proud to be present for.
This picture was taken during the duo's fly by of the Shuttle Landing Facility before they headed off for Texas. I found it fitting that the task of ferrying NASA's youngest orbiter fell to it's oldest SCA, a modified 747 that had been with the Shuttle Program from the very start. Shadowed by a T-38, I felt like the veteran spacecraft of 25 missions was in good hands as she flew off to the west.
"One Last Time" was shot at close range to ensure minimal loss of image quality. It should satisfy the most finicky Shuttle fan on your gift list.
