Description
It's in the skies, so it makes it into my website without regret. :)
Named for the telescope array that first detected it, PANSTARRS made it's way into our galactic neighborhood last month. Estimated to have reached a magnitude of +1, it was still rather difficult to see for those of us in the northern hemisphere (well, at least I'll admit it) due to it's low-to-the-horizon position and timing with the sunset. Still, a little patience goes a long way, so I nonetheless gave it a try.
This picture is the best of the lot. PANSTARRS is cleary visible approx one-third of the way up and to the left in the frame, directly opposite of the crescent moon that just happened to coincide.
