Artist's Description
The physics of stopping 250 tons of airliner is simply jaw-dropping. We're already talking about a incredibly amount of weight here, but when you couple that weight with the typical approach speed of better than 150 miles per hour, then you just have to blink. It's a testament to the marvels of engineering that such planes have the ability to be brought safely to a stop on a regular basis.
I love "Stopping Power" here for the fact that we can visually see the forces that are slowing down this 747. Normally, invisible, the thrust directed forward by the four turbofans in reverse are kicking up a massive amount of spray from the wet runway. The mist swirls behind the aircraft as it slows from the combined power of thrust and sixteen wheel brakes, working in concert to stop the plane within the easy distance of approximately a mile. If need be, the pilots could've stopped this beast in a lot shorter a length.

That's what I try to do with my photos. Besides proximity, I aim to convey a story or stir up the emotions within the viewer when they gaze upon my work. Here's hoping you enjoy your little stay in my...
