Description
"Red sky in morning, sailors take warning," goes the ancient mariner's adage. It tells of the phenomenon where, at least in the mid-latitudes of the globe, the dazzling sight of red clouds in the morning generally means that worsening weather is moving your way. And for the record, it's pretty darn accurate - this picture was taken early this morning, and now, we're well in the middle of a fairly good and lengthy storm.
But back then, it was an incredibly peaceful sight. No wind, no rain, just this beautiful morning sky! The other thing I remember was that this freighter was one of only a few planes moving around on the airfield and the ONLY ONE out at the end of our longer runway. A huge bonus was presence of a puddle of water, that created a mirror image of the breathtaking spectacle. Make no mistake, the morning,"busiest-travel-day-of-the-year" rush was coming, but for that moment, it was utterly calm, a time to enjoy, savor, and burn into my memory.
Then I remembered I had a camera. ;)
Virtually all my pictures carry a back story, but "The Calm Before" is purely candy for the eyes, the mind, and the soul. For those who do buy it, may you experience that zen that I did when this picture was taken.
Footnote: Sure enough, that changed in approximately 30 minutes - first with the air traffic, then with the rain. Haha
