Artist's Description

There is no debating that the reign of the mighty 747 has come to pass. With the efficiency of wide body twin jets, the original jumbo jet's mainline use as a passenger jet is slowly on the decline. It's all about numbers; twin jets do the job cheaper when you run the figures. And with the A380 now well in service, the "Queen of the Skies" lost her title as largest purpose-built commercial aircraft in the world.

But there's a reason why her nickname continues to stick. 37 years is a long time in aviation to hold onto any kind of record. While the 747 is no longer the largest airliner around, her shape is still one of the most recognizable in aviation. The same can be said of her performance; few people would say that she is less than capable of doing what she was originally designed for - heavy, long haul duty. She continues to be used by more than a few airlines, and remains dominant in the cargo role.
