Artist's Description
In March of 2012, USS Iowa left Suisun for its new home in Los Angeles. I remember it being a very exciting time - the last time I saw battleship moving was back in 1990. And it was about the time I snapped this photo that I recall almost being moved to tears. The ship is angling towards the Golden Gate, and the Pacific Ocean beyond. Besides the San Francisco Area losing it's battleship, I realized that this would be the last time ever that such a legendary ship would travel on the open waters, even if just under tow.
This photo was uploaded at the suggestion of a friend, who stated that such a historical image should be made available to the public for purchase. I guess it doesn't venture too far from my aviation theme - it was taken from a plane.
