Description
If the subject of air shows come up, it's practically a given that one fact will emerge - precision military flight demo teams are sorely missed. From the 7 year old child who is just left in awe of a jet looping about the skies to a recruiter who recognizes the PR value of a group of fighters making a sports venue fly-by and everyone inbetween, the raw power and awesome majesty of military aircraft strutting their stuff the way only they can is an absence that is keenly felt. The loss of the thrill of those planning to attend any of the events of this summer's air show circuit is palpable to say the least, and they can hardly be blamed. Very few aerial displays provide the oomph of those provided my the military.
While going thru my hard drive, I came across this picture of the USN's Blue Angels practicing a six-ship fly by over San Francisco prior to Oct's Fleet Week last year. I felt it was rather fitting image with the dark gray skies serving as the backdrop, reminiscent of the mood of those who miss teams like this. Hopefully sooner than later, the muck of budget cuts will eventually clear, giving us the blue skies many of us long to see.
